Kel Byron
Kel never planned on being an author. But during her time in art school while training to become an ink artist for comic books, she took a creative writing class where she disgusted and intrigued her classmates with unique horror stories. After winning several fiction contests and writing for the school journal, she decided to post her work online. Much to her surprise, her gloomy yet heartfelt stories about the gruesome folk horrors surrounding a fictional Appalachian village quickly formed a humble yet loyal fanbase.
Kel's online work has been featured by Autumn Ivy, MrCreepypasta, Creep Cast, and other horror creators. After disappearing from the internet for several years due to severe health complications, she returned in 2023 to pick up where she left off. She published her first full-length folk horror novel, A Lonely Broadcast: Book One. Kel's work focuses on themes such as queer identity, grief, mental health, disability, found family, and platonic love.
Today, she lives in Michigan, where she writes full-time and volunteers for animal rescues and local TNR. She is a cat mom to Primrose, Fred, Cid Finalfantasy, Mariposa, Loki, Weegee, and Poe, as well as roughly 150 former foster kittens.
In 2025, Kel's debut novel was a semifinalist in the BBNYAwards.
